"Ms. Fernandez has truly been a blessing in my life.  Before I took her class, I didn't like anything about myself.  Ms. Fernandez continued to call me a Queen, and I didn't know why. One day, Ms. Fernandez sat me down and explained why she saw me as a Queen and why I should wear the crown and represent the title.  She completely changed my life. I now hold my head up high, and no boyfriend, female friend, or anyone, for that matter, can take my pride and confidence away.

 

I am that girl now, and it is all because of you. I don’t know how I can repay you for being the best mentor and role model.  You will always be my “chocolate mama!” Thank you for loving your students as if they were your own. When I become a surgeon, I will make sure to give you all of the props because I know I would have never made it in life without your kind words, encouragement, love, and constant support. I love you, Mrs. Fernandez. Your Afro-Latina daughter."
