"Mrs. Fernandez has truly been a blessing in my life.  Before I took her class, I didn't like anything about myself.  Mrs. Fernandez continued to call me a Queen and I didn't know why. One day Mrs. Fernandez sat me down and explained why she saw me like a Queen and why I should wear the crown and represent the title.  She completely changed my life. I now hold my head up high and no boyfriend, female friend, or anyone for that matter can take my pride and confidence away.

 

I am that girl now and it is all because of you. I don’t know how I can repay you for being the best mentor and role-model.  You will always be my “chocolate mama!” Thank you for loving your students as if we were your own. When I become a surgeon, I will make sure to give you all of the props because I know I would have never made it in life without your kind words, encouragement, love, and constant support. I love you, Mrs. Fernandez. Your Afro-Latina daughter."
